Sting, Shaggy – Dear Sting & Shaggy

Date: 2018-04-20 13:00:01 [dn_wp_yt_youtube_source type=”101″ id=”45qLqZFgVGM”] Sting has been smitten with reggae music for decades. From “Roxanne” to “So Lonely,” the Police often turned to Jamaica’s rhythm grooves; he even wrote “Every Breath You Take” while visiting Ocho Rios in the ’80s. So it’s no shock that he’s connected with Shaggy, the Kingston native and hit maker behind “Boombastic” and “It Wasn’t Me.” Shaggy’s songbook has a unique way with several of the Caribbean’s stylistic twists, so the pair’s collabo on “Don’t Make Me Wait” from their new ’44/876′ album makes lots of sense, and is lots of fun. Indeed, both gents are always up for a good laugh, so we these “qualified clinical psychologists” in to dispense advice to fans with romantic problems. Find out what they say about cheating on your sweetie, day sex vs night sex, burgers without buns and TSTF. Gifted Gab, Blimes Brixton – Live at Vevo

Date: 2018-03-27 13:00:06

[dn_wp_yt_youtube_source type=”101″ id=”bBB_WWNTlcw”]

Some connections make sense from the get-go. When Seattle MC Gifted Gab (Gabrielle Kadushin) threw down with Blimes Brixton (the former Oh Blimey, who was born Sam McDonald) the sparks flew right away. They pass the mic like few before them, their skills and chemistry talking the music to another level, and turning lots of heads in the process. Like ours, for instance. When we saw the vid for “Come Correct” we knew we had to get the ladies into our booth for some spitting and storytelling. And yes, you need to stick around for the tale of the crazy-ass Seattle street incident that bonded them. Attention: great ‘Live at Vevo’ performance ahead. Come for the bars, stay for the vibe.

Sophie Simmons – :60 With

Date: 2018-03-20 16:00:03

[dn_wp_yt_youtube_source type=”101″ id=”cNXnKh8Kupg”]

TV viewers know Sophie Simmons from ‘Gene Simmons Family Jewels.’ Her dad, the outspoken rock star, is the prime mover of the reality series, but the 24-year-old artist helped forward some story lines, too. Sophie’s been into music for a decade now, writing her first songs at 14, and spending time working on her career in Nashville, LA and Amsterdam. Her new video for “Black Mirror” is totally impressive, and Simmons isn’t shy about revealing her thoughts. We thought she be perfect for our rapid-fire interview. Find out if she’s a club rat or couch potato, who she follows on Twitter, and how far she can stick out her tongue.

Lil Dicky – “Freaky Friday” Footnotes ft. Chris Brown

Date: 2018-03-16 17:16:36

[dn_wp_yt_youtube_source type=”101″ id=”mGEtm4AUppo”]

Lil Dicky’s “Freaky Friday” video does the almost impossible: it has the hilarious rapper exchanging bodies with the fabulous Chris Brown. Is it a blessing or a curse? Who got the better deal? Which dude wants get back to the old torso quicker? All these questions are answered as the story spills forth, taking both of them to various LA nabes as well as the homes of other stars, as well as introducing a few cool cameos towards the end. The pair first met at a celeb hoops game, where Breezy gave LD a compliment on his skills. Dicky says that he was “just constantly blown away by Chris Brown’s talent. Every joke I wanted to make, he nailed.” Our ‘Footnotes’ explains how Dicky thought up the concept and shot the vid.

Majid Jordan – The Only Way To Say It

Date: 2018-02-06 17:49:04

[dn_wp_yt_youtube_source type=”101″ id=”ZWGG6iOdj4g”]

Dorm rooms, parents’ basements – when singer Majid Al Maskati and produer Jordan Ullman connected several years ago as Toronto college students, their lab was any place they could unite to sculpt a little sound. In our profile of the R&B synth duo, they admit that one of the advantages of their approach is being able to “pick up and make music anywhere.” It’s worked out. After Noah “40” Shebib bumped into their ‘afterhours’ EP on SoundCloud, he invited them to become part of Team Drake and the OVO fam. Success didn’t take long. Majid Jordan shaped the vibe of “Hold On, We’re Going Home.” Last year’s ‘The Space Between’ finds the pair coming up with some innovative synth sounds, so Vevo’s Anupa Mistry took them over to Patch:Work Electronics in Brooklyn for a chat about finding their sound together, restoring synthesizers, and figuring out their dream studio situations. Indoor garden, anyone?

Artist on Artist: St. Vincent x Jack Antonoff on Censorship, Masks, and Biblical Butts

Date: 2018-01-31 17:00:02

[dn_wp_yt_youtube_source type=”101″ id=”PpCa2MG18Cw”]

Annie Clark has been nurturing her public persona as St. Vincent for several years now, and with each new iteration, the power of her music and its accompanying visual impact becomes more and more eloquent. Last year’s ‘Masseduction,’ may be her most powerful statement yet. It made several best-of-2017 lists, and its videos for “New York” and “Los Ageless” feel like modern classics. Jack Antonoff had a hand in shaping these sounds. The Bleachers boss and pop producer worked with Clark on much of the record. We invited both of them in for a little chat regarding their chemistry together. It’s part of our ‘Artist on Artist’ series. Along the way the conversation bounced off what it was like to play to small audiences in the early days, the problems with leather sex masks, and American television’s apprehension regarding ladyparts.

Knox Fortune – Vevo Meets: Knox Fortune

Date: 2018-01-17 20:00:01

[dn_wp_yt_youtube_source type=”101″ id=”9ehu48iVsXU”]

Chicago singer Knox Fortune is moving forward quickly with videos such as “Lil Thing” and “No Dancing,” and his position in the city’s creative community has put him in middle of a vibrant culture that includes Chance the Rapper and Joey Purp. He has called his sound, “dirty pop.” A sizable chunk of his ‘Paradise” album was recorded at Rick Rubin’s Shangi-La studio, and impresses with the way it brings a gritty vibe to a generally upbeat attitude. In ‘Vevo Meets’ Knox recounts giving up the producer role to become an artist. See what he says about playing Big Audio Dynamite records at the wrong speed.

Action Bronson – Acting Ambitions

Date: 2018-01-07 20:38:08

[dn_wp_yt_youtube_source type=”101″ id=”LF0-idBA5BI”]

The silver screen has been calling Action Bronson for a while now. “I wanna write, direct, produce,” says the MC famous for tracks such as “Baby Blue.” And he’s been working on his goals. These days he’s just as known for his appearances on Viceland’s ‘Fuck, That’s Delicious’ and ‘The Untitled Action Bronson Show’ as he is for his place in the game. We fell for 2017’s ‘Blue Chips 7000’ album and invited AB in for a chat about his film-making interests. He says he wants to be “a villainous lover – a mixture of both.” Or a cyborg, bear or astronaut in a sci-fi or rom-com. Watch him explain.

G-Eazy – “Him & I” Footnotes

Date: 2017-12-16 01:00:01

[dn_wp_yt_youtube_source type=”101″ id=”VFXsPhBnVs0″]

G-Eazy & Halsey shot a big budget video for “Him & I” but when the dust settled they didn’t think it spoke to the emotional essence of their relationship. So bopping around NYC, they made a much more informal effort, and it’s irresistible in its candor. The two artists hit the streets, ride the subway, enjoy cocktails, and do plenty of kissing. The video is from G-Eazy’s new ‘The Beautiful & Damned’ album. As usual our ‘Footnotes’ gathers all the info about the vid and lays it all out for you. All hail F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Big Boi’s been places and done things. From founding OutKast with Andre 3000 to dropping a string of discs (the latest being ‘Boomiverse’) on his own, he’s traveled the world and made a massive impact on hip-hop and its culture.
